Massage Therapies
Aromatherapy:
Traditionally involving a gentle holistic massage using pure essential oils. The oils can be chosen to treat
a variety of issues, from physical to emotional. Each essential oil has different healing properties.
For example, some calm while others energize. An aromatherapist blends together a number of different
essential oils to treat the clients needs. Here are some widely used essential oils and their properties:
calming – chamomile, lavender, geranium
uplifting – ylang ylang, clary sage, rose, neroli
energizing – bergamot, rosemary
cleansing – rosemary, grapefuit
decongesting – eucalyptus, pine, tea tree
Among the many benefits of this treatment are the lowering of stress levels, calming the mind,
improvement of digestion, breathing, circulation and easing of joint aches.
Remedial / Deep Tissue Massage:
This technique focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. When muscles are stressed, they block
oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. By working on
the ligaments, soft tissue and tendons, muscle tissues are loosened, toxins released and blood and
oxygen circulation is stimulated. It also aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body for
long-term benefits of the body to achieve this. These techniques can be very effective in treating and
helping to prevent further injury.
Indian Head massage:
An accessible and convenient therapy Indian head massage can give instant relief from tension and stress.
This therapeutic treatment is based on acupressure massage and concentrates on the face, head, neck and
shoulders. It can help to alleviate sinus pain, migraine, headaches, eye-strain and muscular aches as well as
improving hair condition and inducing a state of relaxation.
Ear Candling:
This is an ancient tradition for the treatment and prevention of ear blockages. Made of natural waxed cloth,
it safely and gently helps to remove the wax-plug from the ear while re-balancing the ear pressure. As it burns,
the cone causes two effects: 1. The heat, which is beneficially released towards the inside of the ear, reinforces
the blood circulation and helps soften the wax; 2. The warm air, which rises, creates a "chimney effect" at the
base of the cone helping eliminate waste and deposits from the ear canal, regaining the correct tension of the
eardrum following that "blocked ear" feeling. I perfom ear candling in conjunction with Indian head massage to
achieve the best results.
Reflexology:
Based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet that correspond to all the body organs and systems,
and that by applying pressure to those reflexes you can bring the body back into balance. This is done using
precise hand and finger techniques. It is suitable for all ages; this gentle therapy may bring relief from a wide
range of both acute and chronic conditions, such as: Stress, sleep disorders, digestive disorders, migraine,
arthritis, hormonal imbalances, back pain, poor circulation, low energy and immune system etc.
Fertility Reflexology:
Reflexology can help ensure a woman’s mind and body is in the best possible condition prior to conception.
It may help to balance and regulate hormones and the reproductive system. The therapy's calming and relaxing
effects can also help to ease the tension and anxiety that women often feel when things do not go according to
plan, and therefore may be able to help when experiencing difficulties becoming pregnant.
Maternity Reflexology:
Reflexology will help support the pregnancy and can help prepare both physically and emotionally for the birth.
Recent research shows that first time mums who received ten maternity reflexology treatments during their
pregnancies, had an average labour time of 5-6 hours and required significantly less pain relief than those who
did not have reflexology. It can also help ease many common conditions of pregnancy including: nausea, heartburn,
sciatica, back pain, anxiety, fluid retention and constipation to name but a few.
Maternity Massage:
The prenatal use of massage therapy supports the physiologic, structural and emotional well-being of the
mother-to-be. Benefits of pregnancy massage include: relief from muscle cramps, spasms & myofascial pain,
especially in the lower back, neck, hips, and legs. It also boosts blood & lymph circulation, which can reduce
swelling and oedema and so reduces stress on weight-bearing joints.
Lomi Lomi Nui:
This Hawaiian temple-style bodywork was originally practiced by the KaHunas (Hawaiian shamans) to
transform and completely balance all aspects of self to create harmony and flow in a person's being.
‘Lomi Lomi Nui’ means the great massage! It works gently yet deeply with the therapist using the forearms,
elbows and hands in beautiful rhythmic strokes, totally nurturing the recipient, enabling the body to relax,
give in and simply be. The unique flow and pressure of Lomi Lomi, both soft and deep, used in combination
with the breath, intuitive movement and intention, encourages the body, mind and spirit to heal.
